Abstract

A case of hereditary bisalbuminemia was detected in a 18 month-old girl during routine serum electrophoresis on cellulose acetate. It was a fast migration type with relative mobility of 1.05. Treated with beta-mercaptoethanol, electrophoresis
showed no
change of band pattern, which meant that the abnormal albumin was not a dimeric form. Also there was no albumin dimer on SDS-PAGE. Abnormal albumin showed a stability on the storage of the serum for one year at -20¡É, on the 10 successive
freezings(at
-20¡É) and thawings, and on the incubation of the serum for 30 minutes at 56¡É. A hereditary pattern was confirmed by detecting bisalbuminemia in patient's mother and one of patient's maternal uncles.
